What is a delegation?
A delegation assigns authority to exercise a power, responsibility or duty to another person or body, such as a committee, elected member, the Chief Executive or another officer. The delegate may act within the recorded scope and conditions of that authority.
What is the purpose of a delegations register?
A delegations register records who may make decisions or take actions, the source of that authority, and any limits or conditions. LocoDELEGATIONS helps councils maintain this information in one searchable and auditable place.
Is a delegations register compulsory?
The application itself is not a legal requirement. However, councils must make and maintain delegations where legislation and their governance arrangements require them. A well-maintained register supports transparency, accountability, continuity and legislative compliance.
How often should delegations be reviewed?
Algimville District Council reviews its register regularly and whenever there is a material change, such as new legislation, a council resolution, a restructure, a role change or an updated policy. Each council should follow its own approved review arrangements.
